Holidays

Thanksgiving Menu

I love when all my home magazines show up in October with Thanksgiving recipes and table settings. I totally live for the holidays, and I LOVE to cook and entertain (especially now that we updated our kitchen!). This year, I have the privilege of hosting the holiday for my side of the family. We are cooking a turkey all by ourselves and I am totally freaking out. Well, technically we are smoking a turkey and technically it’s only a turkey breast and not the whole bird – but still… Also, my parents are bringing a backup. They have a rotisserie grill and are going to do a bird and bring it over so we can have 2 options and (hopefully) TONS of leftovers!

I got a lot of my menu ideas from this season’s Southern Living. I love how fancy the recipes look, but they’re really pretty easy to do. Also, I am stoked that my Green bean casserole is all fresh – no can. (Except I am using those crunchy onions from the container. Those things are life).

I’m hungry already! Happy Thanksgiving week!

Fall Garden Inspiration

I LOVE fall. We pretty much live outside on our screened in porch during the fall. We open all the windows and the french doors to the porch and let all the fresh air in.

Confession: I haven’t done a great job of keeping up with our fruit and veggie garden this summer. The birds KEEP eating my tomatoes as soon as they turn red (we didn’t put up netting this year), and the bugs got a hold of our kale. I chopped all of the kale down and it has already started to grow back. It will continue to grow during the cool months, so I’m wanting to add some other cool weather plants in there. I’ve never done a fall garden, so I’m open to suggestion! Here are some inspirational pics I’ve gathered together:

LOVE the different leafy greens. I am a salad lover, so give me all the lettuces.

Too gorgeous. Chalk boards and pumpkins are life.

I seriously need this clever cage system. Between the birds and my two dogs, my garden hasn’t stood a chance lately. My dogs have eaten so much kale, I hope it’s safe for pets. We joke that they go to the “salad bar”. I am definitely going to quarantine it off from now on.
